Communication whilst riding

Chris Jones2025-04-06 16:21:26

Would love to know if anyone has experience of or recommendations for pilot/stoker communication. We used to have a wired set but would prefer wireless, shouting against the wind and traffic noise is not particularly effective.

thanks

Have a look at the Milo device. Developed specifically for outdoor sports.

We use Sena bike helmets.  Mike and speakers are integral.  They are wireless with an open mic and have a range of about 1/2 mile if you are separated.   ie: you can't lose your stoker.  Should get at least 5 hours of continuous operation and recharge pretty quickly.  Available on Amazon.

We use Sena Pi in normal helmets.  Works pretty well.  I'd agree with about 5 hrs.

only thing we found was wind noise was a problem.  A little foam muffler over the microphone fixed this.

We use the Vertix Velo intercom set with our existing helmets and are very happy with it.  We find the range when on solos is up to about 500m -- best when we can see each other and a bit less when there are obstructions between us.  Operating life is up to about 8 hours, which is all day for us.  If we're worried, we turn them off when stopped for refreshment.  They recharge with a USB cable, and we often use a power bank for that.  You can't use them when recharging.

There doesn't seem to be a distributor in Europe, so we bought ours directly from Vertix in Singapore.  That process worked well, arriving in about a week.
